Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has described the death of former military governor of Ondo State, Major General Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye (rtd), as a huge loss to the state and the country.
In a statement, the governor described him as one of the state’s foremost leaders and one time military administrator Akeredolu said he received the news with sadness.
He said Opaleye will be remembered for his contributions to the development of the country and his selfless service in the Nigeria Army.
Akeredolu further said his death signaled a depletion in the array of resourceful and prominent figures who have nurtured the sunshine state to its present glory.
He commiserated with the family of the deceased, while praying God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
Late Major General Opaleye (Rtd)
was Governor of the old Ondo State between August 1986 to December 1987 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.
