Akure residents seek Police and FRSC presence on the roads

Residents of Akure , the Ondo state capital have decried the absence of police officers and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps in strategic places in town to maintain law and order.

Some of the residents said already miscreants are taking advantage of the situation to unleash terror.

ORANGEFM’s Oluseye Akinwalere reports that a visit round Akure metropolis revealed that neither traffic wardens from the police department nor officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps were seen in strategic places controlling traffic or doing their routine stop and search operations.

At areas such as Agbogobo roundabout, Onyearugbulem junction and FUTA Junction it now takes the intervention of public spirited individuals to control traffic

It was equally gathered that men in uniform now prefer to wear mufti since the escalated endsars protests broke out.

Some of the officers who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity said they were afraid of mob attack

since the endsars protests have taken another dimension.

Some residents of Akure lamented that their absence will cause serious danger to members of the public.

Others called for good welfare packages for the officers to effectively carry out their jobs.

In his reaction , the Ondo state police image maker Tee Lee Ikoro said men of the command cannot leave their duty post even in the midst of crisis.

He said members of the public should not entertain any fear and report any suspicious movement around them promptly to the nearest police station.

Similarly, during a visit to the Office of the federal Road Safety Ondo state command, few of their officials were in Mufti.

No Senior Officer was willing to comment on the absence of FRSC officers and men on the road to take charge in high traffic areas .
