Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu Moves Against FGM

The wife of Ondo Gtate Governor, Mrs Betty Anyawu Akeredolu has called for collective efforts in the crusade against genital mutilation.

Mrs Anyawu Akeredolu made the call while featuring on OSRC’s television programme set up to mark the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.

Oluseye Akinwalere reports that the International Day of Zero Tolerance against Female Genital Mutilation holds annually as part of the United Nation’s efforts to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation.

Victims of Female Genital Mutilation had experienced difficulty and pain during menstruation.

This year’s theme was “Accelerating Investment to End Female Genital Mutilation”.

And towards achieving this goal, the State Agency Against Gender Based violence was established last year with the sole aim of prioritizing the welfare of victims of gender based violence .

The First Lady ,Chief Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu who is also the chairman OSAA GBV said there is the need to reduce the rate of female genital mutilation in the society.

The Executive Secretary of OSAA-GBV ,Mrs Bola Joel Ogundadegbe assured that the agency will take the news to people in the grassroots .

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Gender Mrs Olamide Falana appealed to residents as government cannot do it alone ,saying people should be on the look out .

A resource Person, Dr Omobe from the Primary Health Care Board harped on the need of training medical professional .

As Policy makers strive to. end the ugly trend, other Nigerians should join hands in that direction.
