Mixed reactions trail arrival of COVID-19 vaccine

Following the federal government’s receipt of the Covid-19 vaccine and NAFDAC’s certification of the AstraZeneca vaccine as safe for use in Nigeria, the Ondo state government says it is prepared to administer it to residents.

The Chairman, inter-ministerial committe on covid-19 Professor Adesegun Fatusi renewed the call on the people to follow all preventive measures to stay safe from the virus while also advising on the acceptance of the vaccine.

Oluseye Akinwalere reports that Prof Fatusi said the 16 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine which Nigeria received through the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access Facility (COVAX) is crucial to making Covid-19 less fatal in the country, and by extension, the state

The State Covid-19 committee chairman urged residents to present themselves for vaccination as it will go a long way to shield them from becoming patients of the deadly virus

Some residents who spoke on the issue expressed their fears on taking the vaccine because of the negative propaganda circulating on the social media while others were optimistic that the vaccine will serve a great purpose.

There is clearly a need for more sensitization on the covid-19 vaccine to win public acceptance.

President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo and the Secretary to the federal government Boss Mustapha will lead in taking the vaccines as well as front line workers such as health workers,Covid lab tech workers, immigration, police, custom, people with deadly illnesses and people from 50 years and above.
