Nigeria now has a Centre for Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, as part of the ongoing restructuring of the country’s security architecture.
The Center will be domiciled in the office of the National Security Adviser.
In a statement, the Head, strategic ommunication in the office of the National Security Adviser said Retired Major General AM Dikko has been appointed as Pioneer Coordinator.
The statement added that the Centre will lead a multi-stakeholder process involving Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as the Civil Society in implementing all national, UN, and ECOWAS Plans of Action on the control of SALW.
In August 2020 President Buhari approved the establishment of the Center.
