In a bid to stem the rise of HIV infection in Ondo state, Stakeholders have again come together to chart a new course aimed at stopping the disease from ravaging.
This was the thrust of the 2020 commemoration of World AIDS day in Akure the state capital.
Oluseye Akinwalere reports that the theme of the day is ‘Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility and a sub theme: United Against AIDS amidst Covid 19.
December 1st every year is the day set aside by the United Nations to commemorate World AIDS day, and this year marks the 32nd anniversary of the day aimed at evaluating progress made as well as disseminating information about the present statistics of the virus
The Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of Ondo State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Temitayo Oluwatuyi represented by the Permanent Secretary Cabinet and Special Services office, Gbenga Elewuju in his good will message said the state government has been able to provide 337 test kits for all HIV Health facilities in the state.
He charged all citizensto make their health their utmost priority.
The Project Manager ODSACA Dr Adedayo Adegbulu also said all hands must be on deck to stem the rise of HIV amongst residents adding that there should be no discrimination of persons living with AIDS
The Chaírman Network of People Living with HIV Ondo state chapter Aladelusi Adesina urged the people to know their status as he called for more support from the government.
Others pledged to keep on creating awareness about the the virus.
The rally witnessed the four processes of knowing ones status for those who presented themselves for HIV testing which included registration, counseling, blood pressure / Blood Sugar testing and the Know your status stage
