Ondo state House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of the interim caretaker committee for the 18 Council Areas of Ondo state for the period of 6 months except two supervisors from Ondo East ward 7 who was absent and his Akure South ward 8 counterpart whose confirmation was differed.
This is sequel to the submission and consideration of report by the house committee on selection after proper screening exercise for the extension of the interim caretaker committees for the 18 council areas of the state.
Consequent on the letter conveyed to the house by the state Governor, Arakunrin oluwarotimi Akeredolu on the list of nominees for local interim management committee to be confirmed, the house carefully screened the nominees to make appropriate recommendations for the consideration of the whole house.
Upon submission of the recommendations, the deputy speaker, Iroju ogundeji called for the confirmation of appointment of all the nominees and members of the interim management committees except two supervisors from Ondo east ward 7 and Akure south ward 8.
Thereafter, the speaker, Bamidele oleyelogun read out the names of the 18 interim management committees to be confirmed except two supervisors from Ondo east ward 7 who was absent and Akure south ward 8 whose confirmation was differed.
However, the house has the power to dissolve the interim caretaker committee chairmen once the state independent national electoral commission is ready to conduct the local govt election in Ondo state.
Oleyelogun further commended the leadership style of Governor Akeredolu for his non interference in the screening exercise conducted for all the 18 interim management committees ratified by the house.
The speaker expressed their satisfaction to the fixed date for the forthcoming local govt elections in Ondo state even as he enjoined all stakeholders to cooperate with Ondo state independent electoral commission ODIEC in ensuring free and fair local govt elections in the state.
Speaking to journalists after the plenary session, the chairman house committee on information, Olugbenga Omole said the confirmation of appointment of the interim management committees was in the best interest of the state.
The house thereafter proceeded on a recess from Monday 13th of this month to 24th of February.
