Ondo Assembly seeks Federal Government’s urgent intervention on Ayetoro sea surge



The Ondo State House of Assembly has called on the Federal Government to give urgent attention to the people of Ayetoro Community in Ilaje Local Government Area who have been rendered homeless by the recent ocean surge.

This comes after the Lawmaker representing Ilaje constituency 1, Mr Abayomi Akinruntan drew the attention of the House to the Sea surge which has been a major problem confronting the people of Ayetoro Community and it’s environs.

The Majority Leader, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi and other Lawmakers while emphasising on the importance of the terrain to the economic growth of the state tasked Niger Delta Development Commission to do the needful and find a lasting solution to save the affected communities from being destroyed.

The Speaker, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun while sympathising with the people called on the Federal Government to provide Medical Support, relief materials and if possible relocate the victims.

He then constituted a 7-man committee to work with relevant agencies to know the remote causes of tge environmental hazard and possibly find a solution.

The House equally called on Management of Ministry of Environment and the Leadership of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) to appear before it for update on their activities at the riverine area.
