Wife of Ondo State Governor Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu has launched the Accelerated Maternal and Child Survival Project as she also inauguarated Solayo Vanguard, aimed that ensuring a massive reduction in maternal and child mortality rate in every area of the state.
She expressed sadness over the rate at which women and children bear the brunt of the socio economic conditions of the country and as such there is a need to enjoin stakeholders to rise and promptly change the narrative.
Oluseye Akinwalere was there and now reports that Ondo State Government can boast of 80% of pregnant women who receive immunization while only 43% get attended to by skilled health workers and there is a need to raise the percentage to ensure that lives of pregnant women and their unborn babies are saved.
Mrs Akeredolu said more advocacy and sensitisation by all concerned stakeholders should be embarked upon.
She added that the Solayo Vanguards will serve as a link between the women and the health care facilities and will perform a statutory role of ensuring that women in rural areas take the complete immunizations and educate them on the importance of birth control.
Stakeholders including Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health Foluke Aladenola and the Permanent Secretary Primary Health Care Development Agency Francis Akanbiemu assured of support towards qualitative health care delivery for pregnant women.
The Permanent Secretary Hospital Management Board Dr Ikuomola and the Director General of Contributory Health Commission Dr Abiodun Oyeneyin also expressed support for the first lady’s initiative.
A beneficiary who spoke on behalf of pregnant women Mrs. Adewunmi Akinuoye, thanked Mrs. Akeredolu for the gesture.
The Wife of the Governor launched the Solayo Vanguard with 400 people who are expected to function in all communities in the state.
