In a bid to empower women economically, a one-month skill acquisition training programme was recently concluded at Ile-Oluji Local Government Area for women from Ondo South Senatorial District.
Organized in collaboration with the office of the First Lady, Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development, the programme was aimed at equipping women with vocational skills for income generation and financial independence.
The Ondo State Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme (OSAA-EP) successfully trained women in various skills, including Bag making, Make-up, Fashion design, Tye and Dye, Baking, Household items, and Wig making.
The graduation ceremony, attended by the Wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs. Betty Anyawu Akeredolu, emphasized the importance of financial security for women to meet their own needs and support their families.
The Governor’s wife Akeredolu highlighted the initiative’s commitment to inclusiveness, acknowledging that thoughtful efforts can transform the lives of vulnerable individuals.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Dr Adebunmi Osadahun represented by the Permanent Secretary Mr Tope Lebile and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Alhaji Amidu Takuro commended the First Lady for her impactful contributions to women’s lives.
The Jegun and Paramount Ruler of the Ile-Oluji kingdom Oba Julius Olufaderin Adetimehin expressed gratitude for the First Lady’s transformative efforts in women’s lives across the state.
The Coordinator of OSAAEP and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender Research and Documentation Tope Daniyan urged the women to leverage the skills acquired for positive life changes.
Some of the participants expressed joy in taking part in the initiative.
The event, marked by an exhibition and drama presentation, witnessed the empowerment of 100 graduands with startup kits while certificates of training were presented to participants and gifts were awarded to the best trainees.
