Pay your tax to engender development, lawmakers urge Ondo residents

Ondo State House of Assembly has appealed to eligible residents in the state to always endeavor to pay their taxes or levies to empower government with the resources to provide developmental infrastructure.

The House Committee on Finance and Appropriation led by its chairman, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi made the appeal during a familiarisation visit to the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service in Akure.

Mr. Ogunmolasuyi explained that the development of any state depends on innovative steps aimed at boosting the state’s IGR, especially as allocations coming from the Federal Government are dwindling with needs arise on daily basis.

He said the house will continue to cross-fertilize ideas with relevant agencies at increasing the internally Generated Revenue .

While assuring of legislative backings to enhance the agency’s activities,the lawmaker commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for providing enabling environment and the management of the ODIRS for putting up new initiatives towards achieving better results.

Other lawmakers, including Stephen Abitiogun, Olatunji Oshati urged them to continue to come up with good ideas that would better the lots of the state.

Earlier the Chairman ODIRS, Tolu Adegbie who reeled out their activities and achievements noted that all tax stations across the eighteen local governments have been renovated including building already dilapidated ones.

He said electronic data base management system will soon be launched while NIN exercise will kick start in all the tax stations for appropriate documentation.

Adegbie explained that ODIRS came up with various initiatives and workable ideas that will make taxes easy for the people..

He said the agency surpasses its target every year with provision of institution support for the top twenty most outstanding MDAs to achieve better results.
