US Capitol Police said they have arrested a man with a machete and bayonet near the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington DC.
He was found two blocks from the Capitol building in a vehicle with swastikas and other extremist symbols painted on it.
On interrogation,the man claimed to be on patrol and began to talk about white supremacist ideology, an incident coming amid fears of unrest at an upcoming right-wing rally.
Capitol Police in a statement said that Donald Craighead, a 44-year-old from California, was pulled over when the extremist symbols on his truck was noticed, plus a painting of an American flag in place of a number plate.
Officers also saw knives with the affore mentioned which are illegal in Washington DC if found inside the vehicle without proper explanation.
