Sunshine Stars side earned a share of the spoils against Adamawa United in a matchday 33 NPFL encounter in Pantami to move one point clear of the drop zone.

It could have been a game of more for the Akure side, but the hosts held their own in crucial moments, just as Saliu Suleiman continued his fine form in goal for the Owena Whales.

Yesterday’s game began to open up in the 25th minute with Sadeeq Yusuf being the first to move through, but a moment of hesitation robbed him a chance at goal, before the host struck a deadly free kick against the frame in the 32nd minute.

Ajani Ibrahim also had his chance before half time, however a last ditch block prevented the potential opener.

Sunshine Stars continued to pile the pressure in the second forty-five minutes as coach Deji Ayeni rang few changes, seeking to unlock the resilient hosts.

Ajani again went close in the 57th minute but Friday Achimugwu made a crucial stop on the goal line, before Suleiman repelled another dangerous free kick on the other side in the 68th minute.

In the space of three minutes, Yusuf, Kolade Adeniji, Ifegwu Ojukwu and Ajani had great chances, but none proved decisive to break the deadlock.

Suleiman had one more moment of brilliance to deny the hosts in the 80th minute, before Ojukwu blasted over with the last chance of the game in added time.

Sunshine Stars again returned from the Northeast with a share of the spoils ahead of a home meeting with Katsina United on match day 34.
