Supreme Court affirms Akeredolu’s 2nd term governorship election victory

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the victory of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in the October 10, 2020 governorship election.

It followed the dismissal of the petition filed by Mr Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP against the victory of Governor Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress.

The Seven Members of the Supreme Court who sat on the case under the Chairmanship of Justice Mary Odili dismmised the petition with four Justices against three.

The majority said the PDP candidate should have joined the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni in the case from the beginning

Earlier the Court of Appeal led by Justice Theresa Orji-Abadua had dismissed the petition filed by Jegede while affirming Akeredolu as the winner of the poll.
