UN Peacekeepers Kill Dozens At Border Post In DRC



Several people, number yet to be ascertained have been killed while many others have bo injured after United Nations peacekeepers opened fire at a border post in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo DRC.

Video of the incident posted on social media, showed some men in police army uniforms , advancing towards the immobilised UN convoy behind a closed barrier in Kasindi.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN in the DR Congo, Bintou Keita, said an investigation had begun and the suspected perpetrators arrested and that

contact had been made with the country of origin of the soldiers so that legal proceedings can be initiated urgently.

UN scribe Antonio Guterres said in a statement that he was outraged by the incident and demanded accountability.

The statement added “Guterres was saddened and dismayed to learn of the shooting by members of the peacekeeping unit.”
