Vice President, Osinbajo declares Edo 2020 NSF open



The 2020 National Sports Festival has been declared open after a spectacular opening ceremony at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin.

Vice president Yemi Osinbajo who was represented by Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare said the purpose of the event is to regularly bring all the states of the federation together to renew the bond amongst the various sociocultural and other diverse groups in the country.

Professor Osinbajo who was in the Edo State capital hours before then but had to leave due to bad weather said sports is a strong tool of unity thus the Buhari administration will continue to invest much in the country’s athletes and the youth.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee and Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr Philip Shuaibu welcomed the contingents to Benin, the home of culture.

Also Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki thanked the participating athletes and officials for their various sacrifices, enjoining them to compete fairly so that they can be good role models for the younger generation.

Delta State governor, Okowa, ministers, members of the National Assembly among other distinguished citizens were at the ceremony.

The National Sports Festival is scheduled to end with the closing ceremony on the 14th of this month.
