Religious leaders have called on politicians to uphold integrity, accountability and peaceful conduct ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Orange FM’s Joshua Adedeji reports that they also stressed the need for voter education and active citizen participation to ensure credible and violence-free elections.
The Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Yayi-Akorede, urged politicians to shun false promises, noting that political leadership requires honesty, commitment and a strong sense of responsibility.
He also encouraged Muslim faithful to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the elections, warning that voter apathy could lead to the emergence of unsuitable leaders.
Similarly, Prophet Olushola Akomolafe of Way of Life Christ Ministry International urged politicians to fear God, accept electoral outcomes and avoid actions capable of threatening public peace.
He called on voters to exercise their civic rights peacefully, shun violence and intimidation, and return home after casting their ballots.
The cleric further urged religious leaders to educate their congregations on responsible political participation while sustaining prayers for peaceful elections.
Other religious leaders emphasised that voter education, integrity among political leaders and peaceful citizen participation would be crucial to achieving credible and violence-free elections in 2027.
