Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have ended Edo Queens’ hopes of qualifying for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League after securing a 1-nil extra-time victory to win 3-2 on aggregate in Cairo, Egypt.
The decisive goal came two minutes into the first half of extra time when Ampem Darkoa converted a corner kick to settle the keenly contested WAFU-B playoff.
The encounter had gone into extra time after both sides failed to score in regulation time, following a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
Edo Queens pushed for an equaliser in the remaining minutes but could not break through the resolute Ghanaian defence.
Ampem Darkoa will now represent the WAFU-B zone at the continental competition, scheduled to begin on November 1 in Egypt.
The Ghanaian side has been drawn in Group B alongside Morocco’s AS FAR, Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Mali’s USFAS Bamako.
Edo Queens’ elimination brings their campaign to return to Africa’s premier women’s club competition to an end.
The qualification tie followed a controversial CAF ruling after the original encounter on September 5 ended 2-2, with Edo Queens winning the subsequent penalty shoot-out 4-1.
However, Ampem Darkoa challenged the outcome, leading CAF’s Organising Committee to rule that the shoot-out had no sporting effect and that the match should resume from the beginning of extra time.
The decision was upheld by the CAF Appeal Board on October 16, paving the way for Thursday’s decisive encounter.
