…RULES OUT ATTENDING EVERY 2027 CAMPAIGN RALLY, CITES GOVERNANCE PRIORITIES
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, expressing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration and mobilising support for his re-election.
The inauguration, held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, attracted party leaders, political office holders and politicians from other parties, including Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Anambra State Governor Professor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
President Tinubu, who formally inaugurated the council, said he would not allow campaign activities to distract him from governance, noting that the country required his attention.
He asked the campaign team to lead mobilisation efforts across states and local government areas, while assuring Nigerians that he would make time to address them directly.
The President stressed that governance must continue alongside preparations for the election, citing the need to meet the country’s financial obligations and sustain efforts to attract investment.
Tinubu also expressed confidence that state police would become a reality and pledged that the proposed legislation on reserved seats for women would be realised, paving the way for increased female representation in the National Assembly and at the sub-national level.
He, however, cautioned party leaders against complacency, urging them to work towards securing victory at the ward, local government and state levels in the 2027 elections.
The President said the APC had remained united despite predictions of internal divisions ahead of its congresses, describing the party as strong, united and renewed.
Earlier, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, urged members of the campaign council to communicate the administration’s achievements in infrastructure, including roads, power, gas projects, railways, ports, agriculture and digital connectivity.
He said the campaign must explain how completed and ongoing projects, alongside government reforms, could improve productivity, create jobs and enhance the living conditions of Nigerians.
Yilwatda also urged the council to acknowledge existing challenges while clearly communicating the administration’s progress and continuing efforts.
The inauguration was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, among other political leaders.
The event was themed ‘Renewed Hope, Cooperative Federalism and Shared Prosperity’.
