Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has held another meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as efforts to sustain reconciliation between the two political camps continue.
Wike visited Fubara at his private residence in Port Harcourt, accompanied by Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, lawmakers and chairmen of the state’s 23 local government areas.
The delegation also included Kingsley Chinda, identified as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2027 general elections in the state.
The meeting came about two weeks after Wike led members of the Rainbow Coalition to meet with the governor.
Although details of the latest engagement were not immediately disclosed, the meeting is seen as another step towards strengthening reconciliation and restoring political stability in Rivers State.
The rift between Wike and Fubara triggered a prolonged political crisis involving the governor and the State House of Assembly, leading to two impeachment attempts against Fubara.
In March 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, resulting in the suspension of the governor, his deputy and members of the House of Assembly for an initial six-month period.
Former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ibas, was appointed administrator during the emergency.
The elected officials later returned to office, with subsequent engagements aimed at consolidating peace between the rival political camps.
