In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, the organisation said the centenarian was an icon of courage whose life and leadership provided enduring lessons for individuals and institutions.
Pa Fasoranti died at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, five months after celebrating his 100th birthday on May 11.
Afenifere noted that he became the organisation’s leader in November 2008, succeeding Chief Abraham Adesanya, who died in August of the same year. He was the first leader of the organisation to attain the age of 100.
The organisation said Fasoranti followed the footsteps of his predecessors by living an exemplary life and consistently promoting the welfare of the people.
A frontline follower of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Fasoranti participated in the struggle for Nigeria’s independence and remained active throughout the country’s political evolution, from the colonial era through military rule to the return of democracy.
An accomplished educationist, he established Omolere Nursery and Primary School, Akure High School and St. Frances’ Academy in Igoba, Akure.
He also served as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State between 1979 and 1983 under the administration of the late Governor Michael Adekunle Ajasin.
Afenifere recalled that Fasoranti remained committed to democratic governance and participated actively in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), which campaigned for the restoration of the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by Chief M.K.O. Abiola.
The organisation said the late leader believed that public office should serve the best interests of the people, adding that his commitment to progressive ideals, philanthropy and public service had left an enduring legacy.
Afenifere extended its condolences to the immediate and extended families of the deceased, the Ondo State Government and people, members of the organisation in Nigeria and the diaspora, the Yoruba people worldwide and the nation at large.
It added that details of the burial arrangements would be announced later.
