More than 300 people have reportedly been killed in drone attacks in Sudan, including mourners travelling to attend a funeral and civilians at a fuel market.
Eyewitnesses told the Sudan War Observatory, which monitors the conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), that drone strikes in West Kordofan State on Sunday evening killed about 150 people.
In a separate incident, 153 people were reportedly killed when drones struck a market in Abyei on Monday, according to the region’s information minister.
A military source said the Sudanese army carried out the attack on the Abyei market, alleging that the location served as a fuel supply point for the RSF.
The incident has heightened tensions between Sudan and South Sudan over Abyei, a disputed territory jointly administered by the two countries following South Sudan’s independence in 2011.
