In a condolence statement jointly signed by the Council Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite, and Secretary, Comrade Olaoluwa Meshack, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the union commiserated with the Ondo State Government and the people of the state over the passing of the centenarian.
Pa Fasoranti died at his residence in Akure, five months after celebrating his 100th birthday on May 11, 2026.
The NUJ described the late elder statesman as an embodiment of wisdom, integrity and selfless service whose life was devoted to the development of Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.
The union noted that Pa Fasoranti exemplified the traditional Yoruba values of Omoluabi, particularly integrity, discipline, justice and responsible leadership, which guided his lifelong advocacy for good governance.
It also described him as a committed pro-democracy activist and one of the prominent figures in the progressive political tradition of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, adding that his death had created a significant vacuum in the political leadership of the Southwest.
The Ondo NUJ Council further commiserated with the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, the deceased’s family, the people of Akure Kingdom, the Ondo State Government and the entire Yoruba race.
The union described Pa Fasoranti as a disciplined and selfless leader whose unwavering commitment to the unity of the Yoruba people and the progress of Nigeria would remain an enduring legacy.
