The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill has submitted the draft National Policing Bill, 2026, alongside 29 consequential amendment bills, to the Federal Ministry of Justice for review and validation.
The Chairman of the Working Group and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the submission was made on Monday, October 19, in line with the group’s work plan.
The proposed legislation seeks to establish a dual policing structure comprising the Federal Police Service and State Police Services to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
Meanwhile, the Ogun, Delta, Plateau, Kwara and Adamawa State Houses of Assembly have joined Edo, Osun, Oyo, Rivers and Zamfara in approving the constitutional amendments required to establish state police.
Gbajabiamila said the ongoing consideration of the Constitution (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2026, by the 36 State Houses of Assembly must be completed before the bill is transmitted to the National Assembly.
He reaffirmed the Working Group’s commitment to a transparent process that would produce a comprehensive legislative proposal for the President’s consideration.
