Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has assured that the proposed establishment of a military formation in Ifon, headquarters of Ose Local Government Area, will receive adequate support to address security challenges in communities along the Ondo-Edo border.
Orange FM’s Olumide Adeluwoye reports that the governor gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of the Ifon Improvement Forum, led by its President, High Chief Olufemi Awarin, in his office.
The delegation appealed for the military formation, noting that the Nigerian Army had inspected a proposed site in Ifon on October 4 as part of its reorganisation plans.
It also called for the restoration of public water supply and electricity, rehabilitation of roads, and redeployment of judicial personnel to the community.
The forum lamented that the relocation of the High Court, Magistrate Court and Customary Court due to insecurity had forced residents to travel to Akure or Owo to access justice.
Responding, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the requests as legitimate and pledged support for the proposed military formation, while noting that the final decision on its location rested with the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army.
He disclosed that a separate delegation from Akoko North-East had also sought support for a military installation in Ikare to tackle similar security challenges.
The governor assured the delegation that the other concerns raised would be given attention, adding that his administration would continue to strengthen collaboration among security agencies to combat criminal activities in the state.
