Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting religious harmony and peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in the state.

Orange FM’s Olumide Adeluwoye reports that the Governor also pledged support for the establishment of the Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC).

Aiyedatiwa gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), led by its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladeji, during a courtesy visit to his office in Akure.

The Governor acknowledged the prayers and support of Muslim faithful for his administration, President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, stressing the importance of cooperation among religious groups in sustaining peace and unity.

He recalled his participation in mosque prayers as part of efforts to strengthen interfaith relations and assured the delegation that his administration would facilitate the establishment of the state chapter of NIREC.

On the forthcoming 11th General Assembly of MUSWEN, Aiyedatiwa promised government support through its representatives and the Muslim Welfare Board.

The Governor also highlighted the unique traditional structure of Ikare-Akoko, recalling his efforts as Deputy Governor to resolve leadership disputes and maintain peace in the community, including issues surrounding the Olukare of Ikare.

Earlier, MUSWEN President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladeji, commended the Governor for resolving the crisis that affected Ikare-Akoko for over three years and led to the closure of the community’s central mosque.

Oladeji urged the Governor to expedite action on the establishment of Ondo NIREC, describing the council as an important platform for promoting interfaith dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among religious groups.
