President Bola Tinubu has accused opposition politicians of creating the hunger and poverty they now seek to exploit for political gain ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu spoke on Sunday in Kaduna at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign, where he sought a second term in office.
The campaign attracted a massive crowd of party supporters who filled the Ranchers Bees Stadium and adjoining streets, singing, dancing and waving party flags.
The President dismissed criticisms of his administration’s economic policies, insisting that his government was working to reverse the hardship inherited from previous administrations and build a prosperous nation.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did. They created the hunger. They created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” he said.
Tinubu maintained that his administration had demonstrated commitment to improving Nigerians’ welfare through economic reforms, regular payment of salaries and development initiatives being implemented by APC governors.
He said the ruling party offered Nigerians prosperity, economic recovery, growth and opportunities, accusing opposition politicians of having nothing meaningful to offer.
“Our opponents are angry because they are failures. They have nothing to offer you, but we have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery and opportunity,” the President declared.
Tinubu expressed confidence that his policies would improve living conditions and create more opportunities, particularly for young Nigerians.
He also thanked the people of Kaduna State for supporting him in the 2023 presidential election, describing their contribution to his victory as a source of lasting gratitude.
The President urged them to renew their mandate for a second term, promising continuity, progress and development.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and other APC leaders attended the rally, which featured musical performances, including that of popular singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara.
