The Federal Government is seeking a strategic partnership with United States-based organisation, Operation End Starvation (OES), to tackle hunger and acute malnutrition affecting an estimated 6.4 million children in Nigeria.
The initiative, which targets more than one billion dollars annually to prevent child deaths from starvation, is expected to strengthen ongoing government interventions in nutrition, maternal health and food security, particularly among vulnerable populations.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, gave the assurance when she received a delegation from the organisation led by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate.
Mrs Tinubu commended Nigeria’s health sector leadership, describing the team as one of the best the country had assembled.
She expressed confidence in the expertise and commitment of government health officials to ensure that assistance from international development partners translates into meaningful improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
The proposed partnership is expected to support efforts to address child malnutrition and strengthen interventions aimed at protecting vulnerable children from the devastating effects of hunger.
The Federal Government is seeking to leverage the collaboration to complement existing programmes and improve nutrition outcomes across the country.
