The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has constituted a burial planning committee for its late leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who died at the age of 100.

The decision was taken on Tuesday during a meeting of the organisation’s National Executive Committee at the late elder statesman’s residence in Akure, Ondo State.

The committee, chaired by Oba Olu Falae of Ilu Abo, will work with the family’s burial committee and the government committee to ensure a befitting burial for the late Afenifere leader.

Pa Fasoranti’s family had earlier announced December 17, 2026, for his funeral service and interment.

The committee comprises Yoruba leaders, traditional rulers, politicians, clerics, professionals and other prominent figures, with plans to expand its membership.

Speaking after the meeting, Oba Falae said the immediate priority was to organise a befitting burial for the late elder statesman, cautioning against premature discussions about his successor.

He said such conversations were inconsistent with Yoruba cultural values, adding that a credible leader would emerge after the burial.

Oba Falae also called for unity and cooperation among the groups involved in the burial arrangements.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Olori Rachael Falae described Pa Fasoranti as a quiet, disciplined and trustworthy leader whose integrity earned him widespread respect in Akure.

She recalled his contributions as a local government chairman and school principal, including the construction of key roads in Akure during his tenure.

According to her, the late elder statesman remained steadfast in his convictions despite challenges and was respected for his role in resolving difficult community matters.

Olori Falae added that tributes would commence on the Monday preceding the funeral, with designated days for different groups to pay their respects to the late Afenifere leader.
