Nigeria’s modular refining sector is projected to record significant growth in 2027, with seven new refineries expected to commence operations at a combined capacity of 83,000 barrels per day.
This was disclosed by George Maher-Bonnett of Argus Media during a presentation at the OTL Africa Downstream conference in Lagos on Wednesday.
Speaking on the topic, ‘African Energy Outlook’, Maher-Bonnett said four modular refineries were operational in Nigeria as of September, with a combined refining capacity of 32,000 barrels per day.
He explained that the seven proposed refineries would significantly expand the country’s modular refining capacity, adding more than two and a half times the capacity of the existing facilities.
The projected expansion is expected to strengthen local refining capacity and contribute to the domestic supply of petroleum products.
However, the presentation did not disclose the names, ownership, locations or individual capacities of the seven proposed refineries, nor their respective commissioning timelines.
