The 66th Independence Day celebration in Ondo State was marked with excitement as residents, government officials, students and other participants gathered in Akure to commemorate Nigeria’s independence.

Beyond the official activities, the celebration featured colourful displays, including cultural performances and a ceremonial parade by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, creating an atmosphere of joy and patriotism.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in a motorcade, inspected the parade by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

For some participants, the anniversary provided an opportunity to celebrate Nigeria’s journey while expressing hope for continued peace, progress and development across the country and Ondo State.

The State Secretary of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Ondo State Branch, Enikanselu Megbowon, who joined other members of the association at the event, expressed his excitement over the celebration.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Muslim Affairs, Alhaja Sekirat Idera, thanked God for the anniversary and prayed for more years of peace and progress for the nation.

Adding colour to the celebration was the ceremonial parade, as personnel of the Nigeria Police Force entertained the gathering with a colourful march-past.

Students who participated in the event also described it as an opportunity to celebrate Nigeria’s independence alongside other young Nigerians.

The celebration was further enlivened by a cultural display from an award-winning cultural troupe from Ondo State, which entertained the gathering with traditional dance and songs, showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

The event brought together people from different backgrounds to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in an atmosphere of joy, pride and togetherness.
