Public service workers under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, JNPSNC, have declared a three-day warning strike from October second to fourth, 2026, over what the council described as worsening economic hardship and growing mental stress among workers and their dependants.
The strike is scheduled to commence at midnight on Friday, October second, and end on Sunday, October fourth.
The directive was contained in a circular dated October first and signed by the National Secretary of the council, Olowoyo Gbenga.
The council directed its national and state leadership to immediately mobilise public servants across the country for the industrial action.
According to the circular, the decision followed the alleged failure of the Federal Government to respond to demands earlier presented to President Bola Tinubu in a letter dated September twenty-first, 2026.
The council called on workers in the federal, state and local government services to participate in the warning strike, citing the worsening economic situation confronting workers, their dependants and other vulnerable Nigerians.
The JNPSNC said the economic and mental hardships being experienced by workers were becoming unbearable and frustrating.
The planned industrial action is linked to earlier demands by the council for measures to cushion the impact of rising living costs.
Among the demands are a reduction in the price of petrol, payment of a wage award to workers and the commencement of negotiations for a new national minimum wage ahead of 2027.
The council’s position comes amid continued concerns over the rising cost of essential goods, transportation and other household expenses, which have affected the purchasing power of workers.
The JNPSNC has consequently directed its leaders to commence immediate mobilisation for the three-day warning strike.
The council urged its members to ensure that the strike notice reaches workers across the country, expressing confidence in the outcome of the industrial action.
