The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Ondo State, has taken delivery of Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, ahead of the nationwide collection exercise scheduled to commence on October 9.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke, disclosed this in a statement issued in Akure by the Head of the Voter Education and Publicity Department, Olayinka Ogunseye.
Agboke said the PVCs were for voters who transferred their registration during the recently concluded Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise.
He explained that the cards would first be distributed to INEC’s 18 Local Government Area offices across the state before being made available for collection at Registration Area, or ward, level.
He added that the Commission would also display the voter register and conduct PVC issuance at ward level to enable affected voters verify their details and collect their cards.
The REC urged all eligible voters who transferred their registration during the first phase of the CVR to visit their respective ward centres within the stipulated period.
He also called on community leaders, political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to publicise the exercise to ensure that no eligible voter is left behind.
Agboke further disclosed that INEC had commenced a nationwide testing and inventory exercise of its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, devices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the Commission’s Information and Communication Technology Department had accounted for, tested and confirmed the functionality of all BVAS devices earmarked for deployment.
He said the exercise was aimed at strengthening INEC’s technological preparedness and ensuring that the devices were reliable and fit for purpose during the 2027 general elections.
