TYSON FURY WANTS TRUMP TO LEAD RING WALK FOR ANTHONY JOSHUA FIGH
Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury says he plans to invite United States President Donald Trump to lead his ring walk when he faces British rival Anthony Joshua in Cardiff on December 11.
Fury is hoping Trump will join him for the entrance at the 80,000-capacity Principality Stadium as he prepares for the highly anticipated all-British heavyweight clash.
The self-styled “Gypsy King” met Trump at the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House in June, where Fury wore a cap bearing the message, “Donald Trump for Prime Minister.”
Speaking ahead of the fight, Fury said he would extend the invitation to Trump, although he admitted the president’s schedule could make his attendance unlikely.
“I’ll definitely make that offer to my old buddy, old pal, and we’ll see if he’s available,” Fury said.
“Probably unlikely because of the situation he’s in at the moment, being the President of the United States.”
Despite the magnitude of the Joshua fight, Fury insists his ultimate objective remains a trilogy bout against Oleksandr Usyk, who has defeated him twice.
Fury described Joshua as a “warm-up” for a potential third encounter with the Ukrainian and promised to stop his British rival.
“I don’t have any intention of retiring after Joshua. I’m using this bum as a warm-up for Usyk,” Fury said.
He added that he wants to face Usyk in New York after defeating Joshua.
Fury also believes he is in excellent condition ahead of the December showdown, pointing to recent sparring sessions with heavyweight opponents as evidence of his readiness.
“This year will be the most active year for me since 2018,” he said.
“I’ve done 12 rounds with a 6ft 8in Arslanbek Makhmudov and I’ve done seven rounds with another 6ft 7in behemoth in Mariusz Wach.
“Let’s not pull any punches here. I’m firing on all cylinders at the moment. I feel fantastic. I’m 38 years young.”
