Former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, has publicly apologised to actress Regina Daniels, her mother, Rita Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko, and other colleagues over his comments during the actress’s marital crisis in 2025.
Rollas tendered the apology in a statement posted on his Instagram page on Thursday, admitting that although his intentions might have been right, the manner in which he handled the situation was flawed.
In November 2025, Rollas weighed in on the marital crisis between Regina Daniels and her husband, Senator Nwoko, saying the actress needed help.
He also criticised some veteran actors whom he claimed had witnessed incidents involving the actress, took a swipe at Rita Daniels over the AGN leadership contest, and commented on Nwoko’s position as Chairman of the guild’s Board of Patrons.
In his latest statement, Rollas said he regretted speaking publicly while the family was already dealing with a sensitive situation.
“Sometimes, with the passage of time, we look back at our actions and realise that being right about an issue does not necessarily mean we handled it the right way,” he said.
He explained that a recent unexpected encounter with Rita Daniels, during which some individuals attempted to reconcile them, provided an opportunity for deeper reflection.
“A recent coincidental encounter with Mrs Rita Daniels, where some people tried to make peace between us, gave me another opportunity to reflect,” he stated.
Rollas subsequently apologised to Rita Daniels and her family, Regina Daniels, Senator Nwoko and his family, the AGN Board of Trustees, as well as colleagues including Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, Sanni Danji, Agility and Nazareth Jesse.
“I am sorry,” he said.
The former AGN president noted that his apology was not dependent on whether it would be accepted, stressing that forgiveness remained the decision of those who felt offended by his remarks.
“Whether or not anyone chooses to accept my apology is entirely their decision. I am making it because, after looking back, I am not proud of how I handled that moment,” he said.
While maintaining that he still stood by some of the concerns he raised at the time, Rollas accepted responsibility for the manner and timing of his comments.
“I may still hold my convictions about some of the issues I raised then, but I take responsibility for my actions and my timing,” he added.
Rollas said he had chosen to embrace peace and move forward with dignity.
