The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has raised concerns over the safety of students and other commuters using the Owo–Benin, Akure–Owo and Ilesa roads, calling for urgent attention to federal road infrastructure in the South-West.
The association expressed the concerns after its nationwide federal roads inspection tour, during which its delegation assessed the condition of the routes serving Ondo State and neighbouring areas.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, who led the delegation, said thousands of students travelled daily along the roads to their institutions, including Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and the University of Benin.
He stressed that the condition of the roads directly affected students’ safety, welfare and access to education.
Afeez added that the inspection was aimed at assessing federal road projects, identifying areas requiring improvement and promoting accountability in infrastructure delivery.
