A 14-year-old pupil has been arrested after a school principal and a teacher were shot at a middle school in southern France on Monday.
Regional officials told French media that the suspect entered Lakanal Middle School in Aubagne with a shotgun concealed in a guitar case and opened fire before being restrained by a staff member.
Aubagne Mayor, Jean-Pierre Squillari, said no pupils were harmed in the incident, while the injured school staff received treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening.
The Marseille prosecutor’s office said it had opened an investigation into attempted murder.
Local media, citing police sources, reported that the shooting was not believed to be connected to ongoing protests over school conditions.
The suspect’s father was also reportedly taken into custody after weapons were discovered during a search of the family home.
French Interior Minister, Laurent Nuñez, later confirmed that both parents had been taken into custody as investigations continued.
