The Ondo State Government has reiterated its commitment to improving workers’ welfare through measures aimed at easing the economic burden on public servants, including affordable mass transportation and housing schemes.

Orange FM’s Ebunoluwa Akinroyeje reports that the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, stated this during the 2026 Public Service Carnival and Commitment Day held at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade in Akure.

Adelami, who emphasised the importance of a professional, innovative and accountable public service in promoting good governance, described the celebration as an opportunity to strengthen solidarity and renew workers’ commitment to effective service delivery.

He commended the Head of Service, the organising committee, organised labour and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the event, while welcoming public servants from various institutions across the state.

The Deputy Governor said the gathering went beyond a carnival, describing it as a celebration of service, dedication and collective commitment to good governance.

He noted that no government could successfully implement its policies and programmes without an effective, professional and committed public service.

Adelami described the theme of the celebration, “Enabling Public Service to Promote Good Governance,” as timely, urging public servants to embrace professionalism, innovation, accountability and responsiveness to the needs of the people.

He reaffirmed that workers’ welfare remained a priority of the Lucky Aiyedatiwa administration, stressing that adequately supported and motivated workers were better positioned to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

The Deputy Governor added that the government had continued to implement measures to improve workers’ welfare and strengthen the capacity of the public service.

He explained that ongoing recruitment efforts were also designed to address manpower shortages in critical sectors, including health, education, justice, works and forestry.

Acknowledging the economic challenges facing workers and their families, particularly the rising cost of transportation and commuting difficulties, Adelami said the government was exploring ways to make transportation and housing more affordable for public servants.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Union Matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo, commended the governor for his treatment of workers and urged the state workforce to continue supporting and praying for the administration.

The event also featured the presentation of awards for excellent performance to outstanding workers drawn from various ministries, departments and agencies.

Among the award recipients were Omoniyi Tajudeen, Olotu Benson, Adeoye Femi and Olayeye Christiana, among others.
