The newsroom remains the heartbeat of every credible media organisation, serving as the centre where facts are verified, stories are developed and editorial decisions are made to keep the public informed.

Orange FM’s Bukunmi Agbeebi reports that at Orange 94.5 FM, the process involves journalists gathering information, verifying facts, editing scripts and ensuring that stories meet the standards of responsible journalism before they are broadcast.

The Director of News and Current Affairs, Mrs. Adebimpe Akindele, explained why the newsroom is often described as a madhouse, while reflecting on the evolution of its operations over the years.

She noted that although the newsroom may appear chaotic due to its demanding pace, every assignment, editorial decision and broadcast serves a specific purpose.

The Controller of the Newsroom, Mr. Igbekele Ologun, highlighted the responsibility of journalists to the public, stressing the need for careful consideration before stories are approved for broadcast, particularly in an era when misinformation spreads rapidly.

He emphasised the importance of ensuring that reports are accurate, credible and capable of informing the public without misleading audiences.

For aspiring journalists, the newsroom also serves as a training ground where professional skills are developed through discipline, teamwork and practical experience.

An intern, Ayobami Ologundu, described the newsroom as a place of learning, growth and preparation for a career in journalism.

The experience, he noted, provides an opportunity to understand the demands of news gathering, scriptwriting, verification and broadcast production.

At Orange 94.5 FM, journalists are expected to go beyond gathering information by establishing facts, providing context and ensuring that every report meets the standards of responsible journalism.

The newsroom, therefore, remains central to the media organisation’s responsibility to inform the public accurately and contribute to an informed society.
