The Federal Government has proposed a harmonised examination timetable for 2027, targeting the release of results by August ahead of the September admission process into tertiary institutions.
The proposed schedule is aimed at preventing examination clashes and eliminating delays in releasing results that could disrupt candidates’ transition from secondary schools to universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday night, quoting the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, who spoke during a meeting with heads and representatives of examination bodies in Abuja.
Under the proposed timetable, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, will conduct the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, from March 15 to 25, with results expected within the same month.
The National Examinations Council, NECO, is scheduled to conduct its Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE, from April 1 to May 14, while the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, will hold its West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, from May 11 to June 18.
The ministry said the initiative aligns with the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative, NESRI, under the education reform agenda of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa.
It added that further engagements with examination bodies would focus on ensuring compliance with the proposed timelines, strengthening accountability and aligning results release with tertiary admission schedules.
The government said the reform was part of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving efficiency in the education sector and expanding timely access to tertiary education.
However, the timetable remains a proposal, with its implementation dependent on effective coordination among examination bodies and their ability to meet the stipulated deadlines.
