The Ondo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Adminserv Limited to establish electric vehicle charging stations as part of efforts to improve public transportation and promote cleaner energy.
The Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Transport, Muyiwa Ogunyemi, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Akure.
Ogunyemi said the state government would provide an enabling environment for the project to thrive, including strengthening security through relevant agencies.
He explained that the initiative would commence with a pilot phase involving five electric vehicles and charging stations at selected bus stations in Akure.
A United Kingdom-based spokesperson for the company, Noora Oh, outlined how the project was expected to address some of the challenges associated with public transportation.
The Chief Executive Officer of Adminserv Limited, Nnamali Peter, said the solar-powered charging facilities and electric vehicles would be equipped with tracking technology and concealed cameras to enhance security and operational efficiency.
The project is also expected to create employment opportunities for residents across technical, administrative and operational roles when fully operational.
