On Saturday, October 17th 2026 Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa inaugurated the presidential election Campaign council with other sub-committees towards mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The event took place at the Olusegun Mimiko Culture and Event Centre The Dome in Akure with APC stalwart Victor Olabimtan emerging as the Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council.
This is to further emphasize the target of one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in Ondo State during the 2027 general election which may still be months away, but for which political activities are gradually gathering momentum in all parts of the country.
This forms one of the steps of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Ondo state chapter to preach its central message of Unity, grassroots mobilisation and an issue-based campaign among members to the nooks and crannies of the state.
Chairman of the 228-member campaign
council, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, described the inauguration as a strategic step towards the 2027 general elections, charging all APC members to be united, work together to strengthen the party at the grassroots and shun internal wranglings that could hamper its activities, preparatory to the elections.
The governor stressed that unity, cooperation and effective mobilisation would be necessary for the APC to achieve its objectives of one million votes for President Tinubu in Ondo State.
The Deputy Governor Dr Olayide Adelami, Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji , APC chairman in the state Kolawole Babatunde, and other party stalwarts have urged party members to work towards Tinubu’s re-election.
Members of the campaign council include political leaders, elected representatives, party stakeholders, women and youth leaders, and grassroots mobilisers.
Beyond this inauguration and the target of one million votes, many questions need answers.
How does the APC intend to convince voters that the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration have improved their living conditions with Nigerians paying close attention to the cost of living, employment opportunities, rise in cost of food prices, electricity supply, security and access to essential public services.
Also, what strategies will the campaign council adopt to ensure that its message reaches people in rural communities and across Ondo State’s three senatorial districts?
Another point is how will the party manage internal disagreements and reconcile aggrieved members, particularly as preparations for the elections continue?
These are issues that may shape public conversations ahead of the 2027 elections.
Director General of OSRC media group Mr Kenneth Odusola Stevenson has said the inauguration marks a significant organisational step in Ondo APC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
He added that the campaign council must work to translate its plans to meaningful engagement with the electorate.
Orange 94.5 FM opines that the answers to questions raised on the issues will depend on the party’s engagement with the people, its ability to address public concerns and the choices voters make when the country goes to the polls in 2027.
