Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening grassroots security through improved surveillance, intelligence gathering and collaboration with community-based organisations.
Orange FM’s Olumide Adeluwoye reports that the governor stated this while receiving the Southwest Regional Commander of the Community Crime Prevention Initiative of Nigeria, Chief Olowookere Olanrewaju, and his team in his office in Akure.
Chief Olanrewaju said the initiative was seeking partnership with the state government to enhance community participation in crime prevention, particularly through landlord associations across the state.
He explained that landlord associations could play significant roles in grassroots security by supporting surveillance and intelligence gathering to identify and prevent criminal activities.
The regional commander added that the initiative operates through voluntary service and seeks to coordinate landlord associations while collaborating with the government to address security gaps in communities.
Responding, Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the initiative, describing its focus on landlord associations as a strategic approach to strengthening security intelligence at the grassroots.
He urged the group to submit a formal letter detailing its proposed Community Prevention Security Summit, including the date, time and programme of events, to enable the government to consider the necessary support.
The governor also advised the group to liaise with the Department of State Services to strengthen collaboration with relevant security agencies.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at preventing crime and tackling insecurity in Ondo State.
