The Ondo State Government has commenced the sale of whole frozen chickens at a subsidised price of ₦5,000 per bird to cushion the effects of rising food prices and improve residents’ access to affordable protein.
The initiative, implemented through the Ondo State Agribusiness Empowerment Centre (OSAEC), began on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as part of efforts to ease the financial burden on households across the state.
Each chicken weighs between 1.3 and 1.6 kilogrammes and is being sold at the fixed price of ₦5,000, below prevailing market rates.
The Chairman of OSAEC, Hon. Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, said the intervention was being implemented on behalf of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as part of his administration’s commitment to improving food affordability and residents’ welfare.
Akinsola explained that the initiative was designed to help households cope with the rising cost of food while ensuring access to quality protein.
He added that the programme aligned with OSAEC’s broader mandate to promote food security, strengthen agribusiness development and improve access to affordable food across Ondo State.
The OSAEC chairman urged residents to take advantage of the subsidised sale, while appreciating Governor Aiyedatiwa for supporting initiatives aimed at addressing the cost-of-living challenges facing the people.
The frozen chickens are available at the OSAEC office, opposite the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) office along Obafemi Awolowo Way, Alagbaka, Akure.
Interested residents have been advised to contact the centre for further information about the sale.
