The Nigerian stock market has recorded another historic milestone, with its total market capitalisation rising to an all-time high of ₦164.97 trillion at the close of trading on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) All-Share Index also climbed to a record 254,083.02 points, gaining 1,200.24 points or 0.47 per cent from Wednesday’s closing figure of 252,882.78 points.

The latest performance translated to a ₦779.31 billion increase in investors’ wealth in a single trading session, surpassing the previous market capitalisation record of ₦164.91 trillion recorded on Tuesday.

The rally was largely driven by strong buying interest in industrial stocks, particularly Dangote Cement, which gained 5.82 per cent to close at ₦1,420 per share.

The performance of the cement giant, valued at ₦23.96 trillion, lifted the NGX Industrial Index by 3.41 per cent to 12,199.47 points.

Other notable gainers included eTranzact International, which appreciated by 10 per cent to ₦17.60, and Sovereign Trust Insurance, which rose by 9.60 per cent to ₦2.17 per share.

However, losses in the banking sector moderated the overall market gains, with the NGX Banking Index declining by 2.10 per cent to 2,461.21 points.

First Holdco recorded the biggest setback among the highlighted stocks, shedding 10 per cent to close at ₦125.55, despite trading 343.8 million shares.

The NGX Premium Index also advanced by 1.01 per cent, while the Lotus Islamic and Growth indices gained 1.20 and 0.98 per cent respectively.

The Insurance Index equally rose by 0.75 per cent, while the Consumer Goods Index declined marginally by 0.06 per cent. The Oil and Gas Index recorded a slight gain of 0.05 per cent.

The latest performance underscores the bullish momentum in Nigeria’s equities market, with industrial stocks providing the major impetus for the market’s record-breaking close.
