Supporters of Sunshine Stars Football Club have called on the team to demonstrate commitment, consistency and determination as they begin another campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL), with immediate promotion to the top flight as their major target.

The fans also want the Akure-based club to hit the ground running and reclaim its place in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Sunshine Stars’ relegation in the 2024/2025 season ended the club’s eighteen-year uninterrupted stay in the nation’s top division.

The Owena Whales, however, failed to secure an immediate return to the elite league last season, leaving supporters hopeful that the new campaign will provide another opportunity.

Representing Ondo State in Conference A of the NNL, Sunshine Stars face a challenging group featuring Edel FC, Remo Stars, Heartland FC and Crown FC, among others.

As the new season approaches, supporters, including Abiodun Tadese and Niyi Oluwaseun, insist that the team must approach every match with determination and make promotion its top priority.

Another supporter, Samuel Ayarinde, says a strong start will be crucial to the club’s promotion ambition.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Stars’ Media Manager, Isaac Afolabi, has outlined the club’s preparations ahead of its opening encounter against Edel FC in Awka, Anambra State, on Saturday, November 7.

The Owena Whales will return to Akure to host southwest rivals Remo Stars on Saturday, November 14, at the Ondo State Sports Complex.

Supporters say the team must deliver consistent performances, maintain a winning mentality and fight relentlessly to secure promotion back to the NPFL.
