Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has called for renewed faith in Nigeria and greater commitment to nation-building as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The Governor made the call during the Independence Anniversary celebration parade and march-past held at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Aiyedatiwa said the anniversary provided an opportunity to commemorate 66 years of nationhood, reflect on the journey so far, consider the responsibilities before citizens and look ahead to the future.
He noted that Nigeria’s founding fathers handed over not a finished country, but the responsibility to build, preserve and improve the nation after securing its independence through courage, sacrifice and conviction.
The Governor also urged Nigerians to approach the forthcoming electoral period with maturity, tolerance and restraint, stressing the need for peaceful participation in the democratic process.
Aiyedatiwa commended President Bola Tinubu for efforts aimed at strengthening the Nigerian economy and improving the welfare of citizens.
The Governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to the implementation of the OUR EASE Agenda, which focuses on key areas of development in Ondo State.
Earlier, the Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, described the Independence Anniversary as an opportunity for Nigerians to renew their faith and hope for a greater Nigeria and Ondo State.
Fasoranti congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and expressed optimism for continued progress and development in the country and the state.
