President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria has entered a new phase of economic development, with his administration shifting its focus from implementing difficult reforms to delivering shared and widespread prosperity for Nigerians.
He stated this in his national broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, noting that the reforms introduced by his administration had corrected the country’s economic direction and laid the foundation for lasting prosperity.
President Tinubu said his administration took difficult economic decisions to address what he described as deep distortions in the economy, stressing that attention must now shift to ensuring that the benefits of the reforms translate into improved living conditions for Nigerians.
He said reducing the cost of living remains a priority, with government focusing on increased agricultural production, mechanisation, storage and transportation, as well as infrastructure linking farms and factories to markets.
The President also said job creation, enterprise development and industrial growth would remain central to government policies, with plans to use gas to power industries, revive factories, expand digital connectivity and provide Nigerians with the skills and infrastructure needed to participate in the modern economy.
He acknowledged that millions of Nigerians remain vulnerable, saying the government is strengthening direct support for poor households, expanding access to education through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund and improving access to credit.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in a Nigeria where prosperity is broadly shared and every child can dream beyond the circumstances of birth, urging Nigerians to look to the future with faith in themselves and the country.
