Promoter Frank Warren says Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are set to earn the biggest purses of their careers when they finally meet in a highly anticipated heavyweight clash on Friday, December 11, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
The bout, backed by Netflix and Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh, follows years of failed negotiations and several setbacks that threatened to prevent the long-awaited fight from taking place.
Warren, who has promoted boxing for nearly five decades, told newsmen that the financial rewards attached to the bout were ultimately too significant for the fight to collapse again.
He said both fighters would receive “huge purses,” describing the financial package as potentially the biggest ever earned by British boxers.
Negotiations had faced several obstacles, including disagreements over the venue and the involvement of UFC president Dana White.
Netflix initially pushed for the fight to be staged at Madison Square Garden in New York with White’s backing. However, Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, insisted on a legally binding agreement requiring the bout to take place in the United Kingdom without White’s involvement.
Warren subsequently helped secure the 70,000-capacity Principality Stadium in Cardiff as the venue.
Reports indicate that organisers are also negotiating a late ring-walk time, potentially between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. local time, to accommodate a prime-time television audience in the United States.
Warren, who has been closely involved in Fury’s career, said he expects the former heavyweight champion to defeat Joshua by knockout.
He pointed to Fury’s experience, durability and finishing ability, while acknowledging the unpredictable nature of heavyweight boxing.
The December showdown is part of a busy closing stretch for boxing in 2026.
Before Fury and Joshua meet, Ben Whittaker is scheduled to face Conor Wallace on October 3, Daniel Dubois is set to meet Fabio Wardley in a rematch on October 17, while Canelo Alvarez is scheduled to take on Christian Mbili on October 31.
