The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, have yet to publicly comment on a BusinessDay investigation alleging that a company owned by a political associate of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, received 60.1 billion naira in payments from the ministry.
The investigation, published on September 25, 2026, reported that Reinforced Global Resources Limited, owned in part by Joshua Okoro, received the funds through 27 payments between 2024 and 2026.
According to the report, the company had no traceable federal contracts before Umahi became Minister of Works, while Okoro had previously campaigned for Umahi during the 2023 elections.
The investigation also raised questions about compliance with the Public Procurement Act 2007 in the award and payment of the contracts, including issues surrounding possible disclosure of interests and advance payments.
Following the publication, some Nigerians took to social media platform X to call on the EFCC and ICPC to examine the contracts, the payment records and the reported relationship between Umahi and Okoro.
An X account identified as Bia Pulse described the 60.1 billion naira as public funds requiring clear explanations from the authorities involved in the disbursement.
The BusinessDay investigation also reported that the Ministry of Works and Reinforced Global Resources Limited did not respond to requests for clarification before publication.
The allegations have not been established by a court, and neither the EFCC nor the ICPC has publicly announced an investigation into the matter in response to the report.
